Baltimore isn't the deadliest big city in America after all.
Detroit police say the number of homicides in that city was mistakenly reported for 2008, and the change pushes the Motor City ahead of Baltimore.
Detroit police spokesman Rod Liggons says the city reported 339 homicides to the state of Michigan, which submits crime figures to the federal government. The number reported by the FBI this week for Detroit was 306.
The difference pushed Detroit's homicide rate to 37.4 per 100,000 residents, surpassing Baltimore's rate of 36.9 per 100,000, ranking it first among cities of more than 500,000.
