Fran called this morning to see if we could have lunch … which was easily arranged, since Friday was already scheduled to be a “half day” working with Mike.
After lunch we walked down the Pendleton Square looking for a gift for her boss, next hitting the new Walmart in Clemson picking up odds and ends. We also spent 20 minutes struggling- trying to open cologne boxes to “try before you buy.”
Why mention this here? Because when we finally got to the checkout line we started unloading our selections … to put back on the shelf.
I decided I didn’t need new jeans. Fran decided she didn’t need new sandals or beach towels. Then the challenge was on to scrape our cart down the minimum … and we walked out grinning ear-to-ear all the way to her car.
We’d saved, between our two non-purchases, enough bucks to buy dinner for two at The Galley. Not bad … or, could choose to save it instead .
I told Fran “Joe Sangl would be so proud.”
Saving money, postponing purchases & putting stuff back on the shelf is addictive … once you’ve got the will to try it.
PS. Time spent with a good friend is more valuable than cash.
